“They’re so cute!” said Emely.

“They were brought in to us this morning,” said Jack. “A resort on a nearby island was keeping them for tourists to see. Problem is, they had them in tap water, not sea water.”

“How could they not know turtles need salt water?” I asked.

“Believe it or not,” said Jack, “this happens all the time. We’ll add a small amount of sea water each day to help them slowly adjust.”

“Okay,” said Harriet. “That’s the last one weighed. Now let’s go see . . . What’s-His-Name?” Emely and I looked at each other and frowned.

“You two are hilarious!” said Jack, chuckling as we followed him to our turtle’s new tank.

“What’s-His-Name” was now in a large square tank lined with blue tiles. The water was deeper and our turtle was lying on the bottom.

“Is he okay?” I asked.

“He’s no longer floating,” said Harriet.

“Does that mean he’s all better?” I asked.

“He’s doing pretty well,” she said.

“Is he taking food?” asked Dad.

“Yes, he had tuna this morning, which is a good sign. Some buoyant turtles take years to get better.”

“Now, are you two ready for a very special job?” Harriet asked me and Emely.

“Yes, what is it?” we asked.

“You’ll see. Go grab a wheelbarrow each, from out the front,” said Harriet, smiling.
